After learning about the sinking of the Titanic back in 1912, I became frost bitten at the idea of cruise ships in 1992 . We were then reminded of the crash of the stock market in 1928, leaving me with uncanny feelings about what the future holds for us with a recession forming in 2008. I fall short in remembering a world war that jumpstarted the killing spree of millions in 1939. No sooner did we find our nation again facing combat as the War on Iraq began after the induction of the Bush administration in 2001. Mississippi native, Emmett Till, becomes what many refer to as, a catalyst toward the civil rights movement, following his brutal death after being accused of whistling at a white woman in Chicago, Illinois in 1955. Racial hatred still griped many Americans, carrying on year after year--and even forty-three years down the road when three white men drag a black man to his death in 1998, we still find ourselves amongst strong odors of racism. So as I sit here just writing and thinking, thinking and writing--- I find myself getting lost amongst the disturbing reminders of our countries historical timeline. I for one feel this heart wrenching pain for a nation that fails to recognize the importance of loving versus hate, nurturing versus neglect. Why are our black men going to jail? Is there JUST cause for the rapist who still roams the streets freely? When a student decides to kill hundreds of classmates on a college campus, I question humanity. Why and where has it vanished? I sometimes hang my head in the shadow of my television screen as I catch daily glimpses of disturbing headlines flashing before my eyes.
A few days ago I am flipping through my book of biblical reference, trying to find some comfort from the chaotic world that surrounds us all. And those who identify with the story of the Arc certainly understand the message that falls behind this spiritual account. Some may even agree that the story brings to light the powerful stance of a God we fear. His agonizing disappointment in mankind, who was indeed created to uplift the land from which they were made; however, it seems we set out to do just the opposite and began to destroy His magnificent plan. So 40 days 40 nights God brings forth rain to "baptize" the land and make it whole again. Only to find billions and trillions of centuries later----3rd graders make plans to kill their teacher, teens vandalize the human flesh and submit it to a live broadcast for the world to see. Mothers are shot to death with their infants in their arms, and people are in constant motion toward the jail systems and put away to perish behind bars for small crimes that I find unworthy of even mentioning….
My hopes for the near future rest faithfully in the hands of God and Barrack Obama. Call me crazy but HE is the change that’s always been here and will never leave. OBAMA is change that we as a nation have been patiently waiting for and we smile in our hearts---elated to have it almost completely in our possession….So until then---I hope…I pray…and I challenge my friends and family members who recognize the need for change to get out there and put forth at least minimal effort to bring us closer to our universal goal. Obama reminds us of this importance in his speech:….

"In the end, then, what is called for is nothing more, and nothing less, than
what all the world’s great religions demand - that we do unto others as we would
have them do unto us. Let us be our brother’s keeper, Scripture tells us. Let us
be our sister’s keeper. Let us find that common stake we all have in one
another, and let our politics reflect that spirit as well."
